“Goldenrod at Sunset” 9 x 12 on UART600 using mostly Sennelier, Schmincke, and Blue Earth pastels.
This piece was a challenge mostly because of the fine grain grit of the paper I used. I had not tried the UART600 before. It just would not hold too much pastel, so I had to be judicious when applying it. I have had the photo saved for a while – major credit and appreciation to Denise Turner (@butterflygimmy on Instagram) for permission to use her stunning photo reference. She described that there had been a fire in the area which gave the sunset even more of a glow. Her vantage point from atop the mountain looking across to the other foothills is just breathtaking.
It was tough getting a photo image of the finished piece… I think even my camera had a hard time picking up all the colors in this piece.
