“Dancing at Sunset”
16″ x 20″ soft pastel on cream Mi-Teintes board
This was my fifth pastel piece to complete and was a bit larger. I loved these irises reflecting — almost glowing — in the sunset light. I wanted it to feel whimsical but also give a definite sense of place. I love irises and pink ones are some of my favorites. They start out a deep purple when in the bud stage and as they unfurl they get pinker and pinker. They reminded me again of ladies dancing in petticoats. My challenge with this one is that once it was completed I did not really love the composition. The iris on bottom left needed to move to the left quite a bit more for it to really “work” to my eye. Anyway, I had a ball painting it.
